To maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and in accordance with COPE guidelines, authors are expected to adhere to the following principles regarding citations and referencing: Proper Attribution: Authors must ensure that any material borrowed from other sources, including their own previously published works, is clearly cited, and appropriate permissions are obtained when necessary. Moderate Self-Citation: Excessive self-citation of one’s own work should be avoided to prevent bias and maintain the credibility of the research. Genuine References: Authors should only cite references they have personally read and should not copy references from other publications without verification. Impartial Citation Practices: Authors must avoid preferentially citing their own publications or those of friends, peers, or affiliated institutions to ensure objectivity. Exclusion of Advertisements: Citations should not include advertisements or advertorial content, preserving the scholarly nature of the references. In line with COPE’s recommendations, "original wording taken directly from publications by other researchers should appear in quotation marks with the appropriate citations." This guideline also applies to an author's own previously published work. COPE has developed a discussion document on citation manipulation that includes recommendations for best practices. |
